Family vacation is planned

Well, we did it. We've been talking about going to Florida for quite awhile now. Jesse has a sister that lives in Boca and we would love to go see her. The only problem with travelling to Boca is the length of the drive. It's like 22 hours, even though Mapquest says it is only 18, in actuality it is closer to 21-22. We go to the Lake a lot throughout the year and that is only a 2 hour car drive and to say that it is often a very LONG ride would be an understatement. We have decided to head to Destin. That is A LOT closer than Boca, 12 - 13 hours. We are hoping that Jesse's sister can meet us there for a few days.

Found a beautiful condo and got a great price. Since we will be going in May it is still considered semi off-season so that is what brought the price down. Taxes and cleaning included is right at $950.00 for 7 nights!!!! How cool is that. We will have an ocean view, 2 bedroom, 2 bath condo. Can't wait! Is it May yet???

It is never too early to strategize for this "road trip" with the 3 kids. We are thinking about leaving around midnight or one in the morning.........hoping that the kids will sleep for a good portion of the drive. Then stopping for breakfast at a McDonald's along the way so the kids go play and get rid of some energy that they seem to wake up with. If you have any other suggestions, PLEASE feel free to leave a comment. I'm sure we are probably not "parents of the year" by any stretch of the imagination, but we are also going to bring along the boys Playstation so they have something to do when we are just chillin' in the condo and not at the pool or on the beach or out sightseeing.

(Well, I just talked to my Grandma, and she may have another condo for me to check out!!! More on that later!)

But for now we are just getting excited. And what a GREAT reason to get extra motivated about dieting!!!

Cheri,
We've done the Destin trip 3 - 4 times now with two kids. We usually leave at 5 am. You can get quite a few miles in before you stop for breakfast and everyone is so tired, they usually go back to sleep. One year when the kids were really little, we left the night before and drove to Memphis, got a room for the night, had a good breakfast and by then, the rest of Tom's family (who had left at 5 am) met up with us and we caravanned the rest of the way. Where are you staying? We usually stay at the Islander. Jetty East is also good.

Hi, Laura. Thanks for your comment. We "re-thought it last night and we thinking about leaving around 4am. How long did it take you to get there? Currently we are looking at staying at Holiday Surf and Raquet club. Thanks for your recommendations. I'm going to check those two out before I submit the signed reservation. Thanks, Laura!!

Cheri that sounds like a wonderful plan. I wish it would either snow mucho or let's just get on to May!
